Tapping feet helps build a better team

The TISS Convention Centre reverberated with applause as TISSian Krupa Ravi performed. The audience was left awestruck as the captivating performance by Krupa Ravi drew to an end. All of them, one by one, rose to their feet, clapping in tandem to share their response to her graceful performance. Taking their salutation as a mark that she was successful in conveying her message, a young TISSian Krupa thanked joining her hands as gracefully as she tapped her feet and swayed across the stage for over thirty minutes mesmerising the spectators at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) campus. While the speechless dialogue between the audiences and Krupa continued, Prof P. Vijayakumar moved a bit further towards the stage. Friends meet up after forty years to keep a promise

A student can never forget his Alma Mater , even decades after he/she has graduated, as it is the second abode…. a home away from home, it is a magical place where we build our friendships and future... This undying affection for the institute and towards faculty, batchmates, classmates, roommates, fieldwork partners, internship partners etc. was visible during the alums meet of TISS batches of 1975-77 & 1976-78 who celebrated their ties with TISS forty years after leaving the institute in pursuit over their dreams. A TISS story forever With a high degree of knowledge and professional expertise at their disposal, moreover, despite following a busy schedule over 50 TISSians congregated for feeling moments  of fun, frolic, sharing of life experiences, brainstorming  on issues of social concern. An attitude of gratitude towards the alma mater

The weather at the sprawling Tata Institute of Social Sciences Mumbai Campus was warm and pleasant and so was the mood at the Common Room, which stay witness to this phenomenal show as TISSians met after 40 years. Alums from 1975-77 & 1976-78 Batches from as far as the US, attended the two-day meet which commenced at TISS campus in Mumbai. The Alums congregation witnessed over fifty TISSians visiting the campus with their spouses making the event all the more interesting. Following an ice-breaker session, which gave an energetic start; the event commenced with an inauguration that was marked with a feeling of excitement. The remarkable achievements of four accomplished former TISS faculties, Prof Panwalkar, Prof Sikka, Prof A M Sharma and Prof J C Sarma were celebrated by honouring them with mementoes. Also, look forward for new interactions with new hopes. Someone has rightly said, ‘ time endears but cannot fade the memories that friends have made. ’ In fact every memory of friendship shared, even for a short time, is a treasure. Is shahiri dying a slow death?

During the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement, a movement for the formation of Maharashtra state,  based on a common linguistic identity, the folk art form of shahiri became the central force. Revolutionary artists Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe, Lokshahir Amar Sheikh and Lokshahir Sabale, firebrand performances gave  further edge in mobilising the people for the cause, which saw the formation of Maharashtra state on 1st May 1960.  Now, the art is dying a slow death, but, however, few individuals and groups are struggling to preserve shahiri and keeping it alive in recognition of its role, without much support from the government. Shahiri has been a part of Maharashtra's tradition for several hundred years, however, it received its widespread popularity during the rule of Chhatrapati Shivaji.
